53 Ukrainians on 2024-2025 NHL rosters – The Ukrainian Weekly
Fifty-three players of Ukrainian descent were listed on National Hockey League (NHL) organizational and training camp rosters ahead of the 2024-2025 NHL regular season. They included 31 forwards, 19 defensemen and three goaltenders. Sixteen skaters are legitimate regulars on their clubs, 23 can be deemed prospects and the remaining 14 can be described as NHL hopefuls who will spend most of their careers in the minor league. The regulars include three elite Ukrainian stars: Colorado defenseman Cale Makar and the Tkachuk brothers, Stanley Cup champions Keith in Florida and Ottawa captain Brady. Below is a breakdown of our 53 Ukrainians by division with last year’s scoring stats in parentheses.
He’s dropped out of their top 10, but Tyson Kozak remains a prospect for the Buffalo Sabres while Carter Mazur and Cross Hanas are probable future Detroit Red Wings. Mazar almost made Detroit’s opening night roster and should expect a recall from Grand Rapids soon. Defenseman Bauer Dumanski was released from training camp. The Cup-winning Florida Panthers boast All-Star Matthew Tkachuk (80GP-26G-62A-88PTS-88PIM) and top prospect Mackie Samoskevich (62-22-32-54-24 with Charlotte in the American Hockey League). Youngster Gracyn Sawchyn is a future Florida Panther.
