After watching husband Gael Monfils beat #4 ranked Taylor Fritz of the USA earlier in the day, Elina Svitolina came from a set down to defeat Jasmine Paolini of Italy 2-6, 6-4, 6-0, advancing to the round of 16 in the Australian Open – 2025. Ironically, Paolini was also ranked #4 in the women’s world tennis rankings. Svitolina had to overcome a very poor start. She was missing her first serves frequently and not quite in a groove with her groundstrokes, dropping the first set 2-6 . The second and third sets were the complete opposite thankfully as Svitolina started to get her first serve in more consistently and became stronger with her groundstrokes, striking winners from both her forehand and backhand sides. She ended the match with 7 Aces and an impressive 34 Winners from her powerful backhand and more aggressive forehand.
